Personal Care at Home
Respectful help with showering, dressing, personal hygiene, medication prompts, and the everyday tasks that keep life running.
Discuss personal careWhat is personal care?
Personal care is hands-on help with the intimate, everyday tasks that most people do without thinking — until they become difficult. It covers showering, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, toileting, and moving around the home safely.
It is different from domestic assistance. While a cleaner might handle the house and a cook might prepare meals, a personal carer helps with the body — the things that require physical closeness, trust, and a calm, respectful manner.
Good personal care preserves dignity. The carer's job is not simply to get tasks done quickly but to do them in a way that leaves the person feeling respected, comfortable, and in control of their own routine.
Highfield Care provides personal care across Noosa and the Sunshine Coast. Our carers are trained, experienced, and matched carefully to each client's personality and preferences. Personal care is normally funded through Support at Home — and since 1 October 2026 it is fully government-funded, which our guide to funded personal care explains.

Needing help with personal tasks does not mean losing independence. The right support actually protects it — reducing falls, preventing skin problems, and keeping someone confident enough to keep doing things for themselves where they can.
We take time to understand each person's preferences. Some people prefer a shower in the evening rather than the morning. Some want to choose their own clothes. Some would rather do part of the task themselves and only ask for help with the rest. These preferences matter, and we build them into every care plan.
Safety is part of the conversation, not an afterthought. Our carers are trained in manual handling, infection control, and fall prevention. We also advise families on simple home modifications — grab rails, shower chairs, better lighting — that make daily routines safer without making the home feel clinical.
Medication prompts are another common part of personal care. We do not administer medication directly, but we remind people to take it, help them read labels, and flag anything that seems off. For families who worry about missed doses, this alone can bring enormous peace of mind.
Continuity matters especially in personal care. Being helped with intimate tasks by a stranger is uncomfortable. Being helped by the same familiar face, week after week, is something most people adjust to quickly. That is why we avoid rotating staff unnecessarily.

We provide personal care across Noosa and the Sunshine Coast. Our carers live locally, which means they understand the area, arrive on time, and are familiar with the local services and facilities that support your family's wider care. Because it usually sits inside a funded package, it is worth reading your rights in aged care before you sign anything.

Common Questions
Can I choose whether my carer is male or female?
Absolutely. We do our best to match carer gender with client preference — just let us know when you enquire.
Will the same carer visit each time?
Yes, wherever possible. Continuity is a core part of how we work, especially for personal care.
Do carers help with toileting and incontinence?
Yes. Our carers are trained in continence care and handle these tasks with discretion and professionalism.
Can my carer help with physiotherapy exercises?
In many cases, yes. If a physiotherapist has set a program, our carers can supervise and encourage completion between sessions.
What if my parent is uncomfortable receiving personal care?
That is completely normal. We start slowly, build trust, and let the person set the pace. Most people adjust within the first few visits.
How quickly can I get personal care help?
We understand personal care often becomes urgent — after a hospital stay, a fall, or a sudden change. Once you've signed with us we can have you set up in our system within 24 hours, ready to receive help as soon as your funding or private arrangement is confirmed.
How do you ensure carers are trustworthy?
Every carer undergoes national police checks, reference checks, and role-specific training. We also supervise regularly and seek feedback from families.
